(BALTIMORE) - After a 16-day layoff, the Packers were embarassed in Baltimore, where the winless Colts rolled over them for 506 yards and six touchdowns. Jim Spavital had half of the Colts' scores, helping them to their only win of the season. The Colts' defense, the worst in the NFL, returned three interceptions for touchdowns to blow the game open.

(MILWAUKEE) - Green Bay returned home for the first time in a month, and played before the largest crowd in Milwaukee in two years. Unfortunately, the defense remained missing, as the Rams roared out to a 45-0 lead, and the Packers allowed its highest point total given up since Opening Day. The Rams used the down-trodden Packers as stepping stones to first place in the National Conference. The Rams started off meekly with a field goal in the first period. After that they went to town, as Bob Waterfield tossed two touchdown passes and Norm Van Brocklin and Glenn Davis one each. Four bobbles by the Packers helped the Rams' cause. Brocklin's touchdown pitch was his only completion in 11 tries. The Packers were held scoreless until the final minutes when Tobin Rote threw touchdown passes to Larry Coutre and Al Baldwin.

(MILWAUKEE) - Green Bay bottled up Slingin' Sammy Baugh in the second half to upset Washington, 35-21. The old veteran connected on 14 of 22 passes in the first half but was held to only two completions in the second half. Washington ran and passed 82 yards to score in the first period, the counter coming on a 33-yard Baugh-to-Howie Livingston pass. But the Packers came back to count twice in the second period, first on a 21-yard pass from Paul Christman to Ted Cooke then on an 85-yard punt runback by Billy Grimes. Washington tied it up at 14-14 in the third on Bob Goode's 80-yard dash. Green Bay, however, iced it with two more touchdowns. The Redskins coughed the pigskin up seven times. The game marked the debut of Paul Christman at quarterback, as the Packers picked him up from the Cardinals after releasing Tom O'Malley (who they had acquired from Cleveland in the off-season).

(GREEN BAY) - Yanks owner Ted Collins may not have been out of the red, but his high scoring New York Yanks are out of the NFL cellar. Collins had spent a fortune in Boston and New York trying to make pro football pay. His 1949 team, the New York Bulldogs, finished last in the Eastern Division and spectators at their games almost were outnumbered by players and peanut sellers. This year it's different. New York outscored Green Bay Packers, 44-31. The triumph kept the Yanks in a three-way tie with the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears for first place in the National Conference.The fans got their money's worth as the Yanks went on a scoring spree. Yank quarterback George Ratterman threw three touchdown passes. His performance was backed by Sherman Howard, and George Talliaferro, who each caught one of Ratterman's touchdown passes and each ran for a touchdown from scrimmage. The Yanks took a 17-3 lead in the first half and the Packers never caught up, although they outscored the winners, 28-27 in the last two periods on touchdowns by Billy Grimes, Dan Orlich, Tony Canadeo and Paul Christman. Grimes ran for 167 yards on 10 carries, as Green Bay rolled up 312 yards on the ground.

(CHICAGO) - Johnny Lujack continued to do a superb job of filling the shoes of Sid Luckman, the guiding genius of the Bears during the past decade. Although noted more for his pinpoint passing, Lujack scored 22 points on three rushing touchdowns and four conversions. Green Bay did score first and last, but, in between, the Bears ripped off four straight touchdowns to avenge an earlier loss to the Packers. Jug Girard set a Packer record with 11 punts for 418 yards.

(NEW YORK) - On a Thursday night, George Ratterman raised his league-leading total to 14 passing touchdowns, as the Yanks climbed into the lead of the National Conference. Ratterman threw two scores - one 42 yards to Art Weiner and the other 69 yards to Buddy Young. The Yanks jumped into a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes when Zollie Toth smashed over from the two after Young's 54-yard return of the opening kickoff and end Jack Russell recovered a Packer fumble in the end zone. Ratterman's TD tosses and Chris Iverson's 10-yard runback of an intercepted pass completed the Yank scoring. Green Bay scored on Ted Fritch's 52-yard field goal, Paul Christman's 16-yard pass to Ted Cook, and Tobin Rote's pass to Al Baldwin.

1950 IN REVIEW: New coach Gene Ronzani inherited a deteriorating team, and constant front-office interference did not make his task any easier. Some new talent, however, kept the season from being a total loss. Rookie quarterback Tobin Rote showed some flair both in the passing and running, end Al Baldwin and halfback Billy Grimes both fit into the attack after coming over the AAFC, and rookie Clayton Tonnemaker graded out as the best Packer lineman. But the defense leaked horrendously, five times allowing 40 points or more, while the offense was inconsistent.

(TOLEDO) - Otto Graham passed to three touchdowns tonight as the Cleveland Browns beat the Green Bay Packers, 38-7. Green Bay scored first but after that the game belonged to Cleveland. In the first-period, the quarterback threw to halfback Dub Jones for a 62-yard touchdown and to end Dante Lavelli for a 51-yarder. He threw to Lavelli in the second period for an 18- yard screenplay six pointer. The exhibition before 12,500 fans at the University of Toledo Glass Bowl gave the Browns their first chance to play against a NFL team.

(GREEN BAY) - The underdog Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Cardinals, 17-14, in an exhibition game Wednesday night as former Packer Coach Curley Lambeau made his debut on the Cardinal bench. More than 20,000 fans saw the Packers break a second quarter tie and then humble the team Lambeau took over last February after 31 years with Green Bay. In new Coach Gene Ronzani's first home appearance, the Packers scored in the first 11 minutes. Bob Summerhays pounced on Elmer Angsman's fumble on the Cards' 30. Tobin Rote pitched to Tony Canadeo and then to Tony Canadeo, who landed on the oneyard line. Ted Fntsch took it over and then converted for the extra point. The Cardinals made 15 first downs to the Packers' 12, but the Packers gained 280 yards to their opponents' 220. Defeated by Cleveland in an exhibition game last week, 38-7, the Packers were improved in almost all departments.

(BOSTON) - The Packers booted an early 38-yard field goal and drove 10 yards through the air for a fourth period touchdown to defeat the Giants in an exhibition game Tuesday night at Braves Field. After the Packers' first scoring drive was checked about midway through the opening quarter, Ted Fritsch kicked the field goal from a difficult angle. The Packers saw two other touchdown thrusts turned back before Jug Girard took over the tossing assignment for Tobin Rote and completed two long heaves to end Al Baldwin for a first down on the Giants' 8-yard line. Then Rote drew a favorable interference ruling on a grounded pass aimed at Abner Wimberly. It gave the Packers a first down on the Giants' 2-yard line from where Jack Cloud plunged over on fourth down. The Giants were confined to their end of the field until after the Packers completed their scoring. A disappointing crowd was doused by a heavy pre-game shower, which also delayed its start for 15 minutes.

But the Colts contributed a 100-yard touchdown run as their share of the fireworks. The big 22-year-old Rice graduate completed nine of his 19 passes for 206 yards to lead the Packers' attack. Rookie Baltimore QB Adrian Burk of Baylor passed to rookie Jim Owens from the Packer two yard line for the opening touchdown of the game late in the second period. Rote fired his 10-yard touchdown pass to Canadeo a minute later to tie the score at 7-7 at halftime. Rote passed to Al Baldwin for a 47-yard scoring play late in the third period, and Ted Fritsch booted a field goal from the 14 in the last quarter to give the Packers a 16-7 lead. Chet Mutryn of Baltimore took the ball on the next kickoff and sprinted 100 yards for the final touchdown of the game. The game, played for the benefit of the Shrine charity, was the Packers' third victory in four prc-league season tilts.
