WEEK 1 - September 8: Green Bay (1-0) 24, Minnesota (0-1) 19
(GREEN BAY) - Aaron Rodgers passed his first test as the Packers' new quarterback, throwing for 178 yards and a TD and scoring on a game-clinching sneak in a victory over Minnesota on Monday night. Rodgers got help from the Packers' special teams, RB Ryan Grant and S Atari Bigby in his first regular-season start. Will Blackmon's 76-yard punt return gave Green Bay a 17-6 lead going into the fourth quarter. Grant broke free for a 57-yard run midway through the fourth quarter, giving the Packers first-and-goal at the 2. After a penalty against the Vikings, Rodgers was stuffed on his first attempt at a quarterback sneak but plunged into the end zone on the second try. Tavaris Jackson then led the Vikings on an 11-play drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by Adrian Peterson, cutting the Packers' lead to 24-19 with 2:39 remaining. An onside kick attempt by Ryan Longwell bounced out of bounds, giving the ball back to the Packers at their own 39. But the Packers had to punt, giving the ball back to Minnesota at its own 31 with 1:51 remaining. But with the Vikings driving near midfield with under a minute remaining, Bigby stepped in front of Jackson's pass.

WEEK 2 - September 14: Green Bay (2-0) 48, Detroit (0-2) 25
(DETROIT) - Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes in the first four drives of his second start, helping Green Bay build a big lead it needed. Green Bay led 21-0 midway through the second quarter, but fell behind by a point with 7:41 left after Calvin Johnson caught his second TD in the fourth quarter. The Packers went back ahead with a field goal on the ensuing drive, then turned the game back into the rout it had been with three straight interceptions. Charles Woodson and Nick Collins returned two of the picks for touchdowns, giving Green Bay a lopsided lead again. Rodgers was 24-of-38 for 328 yards, three scores and a fumble in his first start on the road and his first fourth-quarter comeback. Greg Jennings caught six passes for 167 yards, including a 60-yard gain to set up Mason Crosby's go-ahead field goal with 5:17 to go. Donald Driver, James Jones and Jordy Nelson all had TD receptions from Rodgers. The Lions are 0-2 for the fourth time since 2001, when Matt Millen took control as team president beginning a stretch of futility that has sunk the franchise to an NFL-worst 31-83 record. Jon Kitna was 21-of-41 for 276 yards, two TDs and three interceptions.

WEEK 3 - September 21: Dallas (3-0) 27, Green Bay (2-1) 16
(DALLAS) - The Packers had a plan to stop Terrell Owens, and did it ever work. Unfortunately for them, just about everyone else on the Cowboys' offense had a big night. Even unheralded backup receiver Miles Austin got into the act with a pair of big catches. With Owens uncharacteristically silent on and off the field - he didn't talk after the game - Marion Barber ran for a career-high 142 yards and a touchdown, and rookie Felix Jones added a 60-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Jones has scored in his first three NFL games, the first player since Andre Davis and Donte' Stallworth in 2002 to do so.  Then Austin, who plays mostly on special teams and came into Sunday's game with seven career receptions, sealed the win with a 52-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. Dallas joined the reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants as the NFC's only undefeated teams. Aaron Rodgers did not throw an interception, becoming the first Packers starting QB to not throw an interception in his first three games of the season. Scott Hunter, who replaced Bart Starr as the Packers' starter in 1972, was the last to accomplish the feat. In their sixth game in Green Bay, the Cowboys won for the first time at Lambeau Field.

WEEK 4 - September 28: Tampa Bay (3-1) 30, Green Bay (2-2) 21
(TAMPA BAY) -  Derrick Brooks hasn't been himself this season. A sore hamstring has seen to that, feeding the perception that the 10-time Pro Bowl linebacker and Tampa Bay's aging defense are slowing down. Aaron Rodgers will tell you otherwise. Brooks had one of three interceptions off Green Bay's young quarterback and also forced a fumble that Jermaine Phillips returned 38 yards for a touchdown, helping the Bucs beat the Packers. Rogers threw for two touchdowns to Greg Jennings, who had six receptions for 109 yards, but was sacked three times and left the game for one series with a shoulder injury midway through the fourth quarter. The fourth-year pro returned briefly after Green Bay  fell behind 23-21 on Matt Bryant's third field goal of the game. But he was hit from the blindside as he launched a pass on second down, and the ball was picked off by Gaines Adams with just over two minutes to go. Earnest Graham put away Tampa Bay's third straight victory with Brian Griese at quarterback, breaking a 47-yard run to the Packers 1 and then scoring on the next play to make it 30-21. He finished with 111 yards rushing on 20 carries.  Matt Flynn was 2-of-5 for 6 yards on the two possessions he replaced Rodgers. The Packers finished with 181 yards total offense and just eight first downs - one in the second half, on Rodgers' long TD throw to Jennings. Rodgers had gone 157 pass attempts without throwing an interception -- the third longest streak in team history -- before tossing the first of his three on Sunday. Griese posted a passer rating of 36.0 in the victory.  The Packers' Charles Woodson returned a pick for a touchdown for the sixth time in his career and the second time this season.

WEEK 5 - October 5 : Atlanta (3-2) 27, Green Bay (2-3) 24
(GREEN BAY) - With every rock-solid read and on-target spiral, Matt Ryan takes another step toward making everybody forget Michael Vick, Bobby Petrino and everything else in the alcons' ugly recent past. The rookie quarterback turned in another sharp performance as the Falcons beat the Packers, upstaging a gritty showing by Aaron Rodgers. It was the first road win of the season for the new and improved Falcons, putting a team that is supposed to be rebuilding over the .500 mark. Falcons coach Mike Smith had a feeling during pregame warmups that his young quarterback wasn't going to get rattled on the road this time around. Ryan completed 16 of 26
passes for 194 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Falcons wide receiver Roddy White caught eight passes for 132 yards and a touchdown, while Michael Turner ran for 121 yards and a touchdown. Ryan stole the stage from Rodgers, who played hurt and played hard -- but not quite well enough to avoid the Packers' third straight loss. Rodgers started for the Packers despite a sprained shoulder that kept him out of practice for most of the week. He got better as the game went on, even as the signs that his shoulder was bothering him became more obvious. Rodgers hurt his shoulder at Tampa Bay last Sunday, and insisted during the week that the quarterback-record consecutive starts streak held by his predecessor, Brett Favre, didn't place any additional pressure on him to play. NOTES:  Michael Turner rushed for 121 yards for his third 100-yard rushing game this season and sixth of his career. His teams are 6-0 when he reaches the century mark in rushing...Atlanta snapped a five-game road losing streak dating to last season and is one win away from tying last season's win
total...The Packers lost for the first time (including playoffs) when Ryan Grant had 18 rush attempts in a game. He finished with 83 yards on 18 carries...Rodgers was 25-for-37 for 313 yards, his first career 300-yard game at Lambeau Field and second overall.

WEEK 6 - October 12 : Green Bay (3-3) 27, Seattle (1-4) 17
(GREEN BAY) - Aaron Rodgers turned his sprained shoulder into a lesson for any
Packers who may still be missing his predecessor. The first-year starter is showing grit
and leadership that would make Brett Favre proud. Rodgers again ignored the shoulder injury and a crunching early hit to run for a tying touchdown, then threw two scoring passes in the second half to perhaps save Green Bay's season in a 27-17 victory over the sinking Seahawks. Rodgers was 21-for-30 with 208 yards. The Packers stopped a three-game losing streak and are suddenly tied for the NFC North lead. The stunned Seahawks paid for having to start No. 3 quarterback Charlie Frye, because Matt Hasselbeck was inactive - he will be getting his bruised knee reevaluated on Monday - and backup Seneca Wallace was out with a calf injury. Seattle looked inept while gaining just 177 yards on offense and skidding to 1-4, the equal of the Rams at the bottom of the NFC West that Seattle has ruled the last four seasons. Frye, starting for the first time since the 2007 opener when he was with Cleveland, gave Seattle a 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter with his first touchdown pass since Dec. 3, 2006. It was set up by Julian Peterson sacking Rodgers and forcing a fumble Bernard recovered at the Packers 32. After T.J. Duckett ran 9 yards on fourth-and-1, Frye pulled up on a bootleg with linebacker Brady Poppinga in his face and threw 6 yards to John Carlson for the rookie's first career TD reception. Rodgers and the Packers seemed to awaken on the first play of the ensuing drive. Seattle's Pro Bowl defensive end Patrick Kerney leveled the ailing quarterback with a crashing shoulder hit to the chest after he threw an incomplete pass. He went 3-for-3 converting third-down passes on the drive that ended with his tying, 1-yard sneak for a touchdown. In the third quarter, with safety Brian Russell in his face, Rodgers found Greg Jennings for a 45-yard touchdown. That gave the Packers their first lead, 17-10. Jennings beat Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Trufant for his fourth touchdown of the season. While the Seahawks sputtered trying to throw with Frye, the Packers took command with a 15-play, 84-yard march. Rodgers was also 3-for-3 converting third-down passes on the drive, which ended with a 1-yard touchdown throw to John Kuhn.

October 19: Green Bay (4-3) 34, Indianapolis (3-3) 14
(GREEN BAY) - Aaron Rodgers was efficient in throwing for 186 yards and a score and the Packers returned two interceptions for touchdowns in their pounding of the  Colts. Rodgers, 21-of-28 on pass attempts, and Ryan Grant had his best showing this season with 105 yards rushing and a touchdown on 31 carries. It was Grant's first rushing TD of the year and first 100-yard game this season. Backup tailback Brandon Jackson led the Pack in receiving with six grabs for 37 yards for Green Bay, which moved into a two-way tie with the Bears atop the NFC North standings. Peyton Manning was a pedestrian 21-of-42 passing for 229 yards with two interceptions that were returned for scores. Dominic Rhodes scored both Indy touchdowns with 73 yards rushing on 20 attempts.  Dallas Clark led all receivers with eight catches for 81 yards for the Colts, who now sit three games back of Tennessee in the AFC South.

Bold Italics - Made Active Roster
SEASON IN REVIEW - The off-season for the Packers began with a bombshell, as future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Brett Favre announced in early March that he was retiring after sixteen seasons of directing the Green Bay offense. Immediately, the pressure of replacing a legend fell on former Number One draft pick Aaron Rodgers. Or did it? Two weeks after his retirement, Favre let it be known to the Packers that he might want to return, but, days later, he changed his mind again and told coach Mike McCarthy that he would stay retired. After the Packer chose two quarterbacks in the draft,  Favre told McCarthy in a June 20 phone call that he might return after all. Favre formally filed a request for reinstatement to active status with NFL on July 29, and on August 3, he returned to Green Bay as the team announced he would be welcome at training camp. The welcome was short-lived, as after a five-hour meeting the next day, the two sides could not find any common ground and decided to go their separate ways.  On August 6, there were reports that Favre was considering a trade to Tampa Bay.  But, the next day, the Brett Favre era ended when the Packers traded him to the New York Jets. The Packers opened up 2-0, and appeared to be on their to another playoff berth, before the wheels came off. A three-game losing streak in September/October left them reeling. Sitting at 5-5, they lost five in a row to see their playoff hopes wither. The team lost seven games by four or fewer points.  In the end, the Packers did contribute to the NFL history books, handing Detroit its 16th loss to put the cap on a winless season. As for Rodgers, he threw for over 4,000 yards on the season and became just the second quarterback in NFL history, Kurt Warner being the first, to throw for over 4,000 yards in his first year as a starter. As for Favre, his Jets lost a playoff berth on the final day of the season.

August 11: Cincinnati (1-0) 20, Green Bay (0-1) 17
(GREEN BAY) - Aaron Rodgers shrugged off a shaky beginning as Brett Favre's replacement. In his first start for the Packers, Rodgers delivered a pair of scoring drives and a handful of highlights in a loss to the Bengals on Monday night. The Bengals tagged Rodgers for an early interception off of a deflected pass, but he recovered to complete 9 of 15 throws for 117 yards and a touchdown. Rodgers was greeted warmly by fans before the game, with a significant portion giving him a standing ovation. Rodgers could have had a second scoring strike, but couldn't connect on a deep ball to wide open receiver James Jones on the Packers' third drive. On the next play, Rodgers threw a crisp 30-yard pass to Ruvell Martin on third-and-2 that helped set up a 37-yard field goal by Mason Crosby. On the Packers' next possession, Jones caught a dart from Rodgers and ran for a 30-yard touchdown - despite bouncing off a jarring hit from
Bengals safety Marvin White that knocked off his helmet.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - J.T. O'Sullivan threw for 154 yards and one score on 8-of-17 passing to lead the 49ers over the Packers. O'Sullivan also had one interception, and Alex Smith went 5-for-12 passing for 62 yards. In his second game under center since taking the quarterback reigns from Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers completed 9-of-16 passes for 58 yards. The entire Packers offense was ineffective. Kregg Lumpkin led Green Bay with 51 yards rushing on 10 attempts, while Vernand Morency caught one pass for 20 yards. Mason Crosby had a pair of field goals to account for all the points.

August 22: Green Bay (1-2) 27, Denver (1-2) 24
(DENVER) - Aaron Rodgers went from pathetic one week to just about perfect the next. Brett Favre's replacement bounced back from a bad game at San Francisco to complete 18 of 22 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown in the Packers' win over Denver on Friday night. Rodgers led four scoring drives in his five possessions and was 16-for-19 for 178 yards against the Broncos' starters, including a 10-yard touchdown to
Donald Driver on the game's opening drive. He added a 1-yard sneak for a score against the Broncos' reserves to
open the second half before giving way to rookie Brian Brohm. Broncos QB Jay Cutler was effective if not as accurate, leading Denver to scores on all three of its first-half possessions. One was a 99-yard touchdown march that chewed up most of the second quarter, and another was an 80-yard drive in all of 16 seconds. After completing his first dozen passes against Dallas a week ago, Cutler was wild against the Packers, completing just 6 of 13 throws for 115 yards.

August 28: Tennessee (3-1) 23, Green Bay (1-3) 21
(GREEN BAY) - Aaron Rodgers needed only one play to show that he's ready to go.
But Vince Young still doesn't quite seem warmed up for the regular season, even after the Titans' victory over Green Bay. Rodgers threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jennings on his first -- and only -- play from scrimmage, then spent the rest of the evening holding a clipboard and playing catch on the sideline. Young made a few big plays but failed to capitalize on several scoring chances despite playing with good field position against the Packers' defensive reserves. Young drove the Titans inside the Packers' 10-yard line four times in the first half, but Tennessee came away with only three field goals. Young led the Titans' No. 1 offense to only two field goals in Tennessee's three previous preseason games. Young stood on the Titans' sideline with a bandage on his right hand in the second half after bruising his thumb early in the second quarter. Titans coach Jeff Fisher said he didn't expect Young to be limited in practice next week. As Rodgers continues to calm fans' concerns about his ability to replace Brett Favre, the Packers' most pressing quarterback concern is who will be his backup. After what started out as a rough night for the Packers' pair of rookie quarterbacks, Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm, Flynn drove the Packers into Titans territory in the final 2 minutes and threw a 22-yard touchdown to Jake Allen to cut Tennessee's lead to two with no time left on the clock. The Packers had a chance to tie the game on a 2-point conversion, but receiver Johnny Quinn was out of bounds when he caught Flynn's pass in the corner of the end zone.

Johnson finished with 89 yards and a score on 24 carries, while White added 77 yards on eight attempts. Kerry Collins threw for 180 yards without a touchdown or interception, completing 18-of-37 passes. Aaron Rodgers connected on 22-of-41 passes for 314 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also fumbled once. Donald Driver caught seven passes for 136 yards and Ryan Grant ran for 86 yards on 20 carries for the Packers, who were coming off a bye and had their two-game win streak stopped.

Minnesota and Chicago are now tied for first place atop the NFC North. Chester Taylor had four catches for 84 yards and a score, and Sidney Rice caught a three-yard TD pass in the win. Aaron Rodgers finished 15-of-26 passing for 142 yards, while Ryan Grant rushed for 75 yards and a score for Green Bay. Nick Collins had a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown and Will Blackmon returned a punt 65 yards for a score in defeat. Mason Crosby added a pair of field goals for the Packers, but missed a 52-yard attempt in the final moments that would have won the game. Donald Driver had five catches for 46 yards and set the Green Bay franchise record with receptions in 104 consecutive games, surpassing Sterling Sharpe.

Aaron Rodgers was an efficient 23-for-30 with 227 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while Greg Jennings and Donald Lee each caught a touchdown for the Packers, who snapped a two-game slide. Kyle Orton, who missed last week's loss to Tennessee with an ankle injury, went just 13-for-26 with 138 yards and lost a fumble for the Bears, who have dropped their past two games. Matt Forte had 64 yards on 16 carries in the loss. Coupled with Minnesota's loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday, the NFC North now has a three-way tie for first place between Chicago, Minnesota and Green Bay.

THE BRETT FAVRE SOAP OPERA
After years of flirting with retirement, Brett Favre stated after the Packers lost the 2007 NFC title game to the Giants that he would make a decision more quickly than he has in the past regarding whether he would return for another season. What followed was a soap opera for the ages:
* MARCH 4 - Favre formally announced his retirement. Although Favre stated that he had been willing to play another year, he felt that another season would only be successful if he led his team to another Super Bowl victory. He added the chances for a Super Bowl win are small, and that he wasn't up for the challenge.
* JULY 2 - Reports surface that Favre was in contact with the Packers about a possible return to the team, and he was "itching" to return to the field.
* JULY 11 - Favre sends a letter to the Packers asking for his unconditional release to allow him to play for another NFL team.
* JULY 12 - Packers general manager Ted Thompson announced he would not grant Favre an unconditional release and reaffirmed the organization's commitment to Aaron Rodgers as its new quarterback.
* JULY 13 - 100 fans Brett rally outside Lambeau Field to pressure the Packers to reinstate him as the starting quarterback.
* JULY 14 - Favre spoke publicly for the first time about his potential comeback in an interview with Greta Van Susteren on the Fox News Channel's On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. In the interview, Favre said he was "guilty of retiring early," that he was "never fully committed" to retirement, and that he was pressured by the Packers to make a decision before the NFL Draft and the start of the free agent signing period. He made clear that he would not return to the Packers as a backup and reiterated his desire to be released rather than traded, which would allow him the freedom to play for a competitive team. Favre also accused the Packers of being dishonest, wishing the team would have been straightforward with him and the public.
* JULY 15 - In the second part of the interview, Favre expressed his frustration with Packer management, spoke of his sympathy for Aaron Rodgers' * predicament, and affirmed he is 100 percent committed to playing football.
* JULY 16 - FOXSports.com reports that the Packers filed tampering charges against the Vikings with the league office, alleging improper communication between Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Favre.
* JULY 29 - Favre formally filed for reinstatement with the NFL, and his petition was granted, effective August 4, 2008.
* AUG 4 - Favre flies to Green Bay to report to Packers training camp.
* AUG 5 - After a lengthy meeting with head coach Mike McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson, however, both sides agreed it was time for Favre and the organization to part ways. McCarthy sensed Favre wasn't in "the right mind-set" to resume playing for the Packers, while Favre felt that his relationship with Packer management had deteriorated to the point that a return to the team would be untenable.
* AUG 6 - Favre, at his home in Hattiesburg, Miss, after Wednesday's Green Bay exit, confirmed that he was considering the Jets and Buccaneers.
* AUG 7 - After negotiations with both the Buccaneers and Jets, the Packers traded Favre to the Jets in exchange for a conditional fourth round pick in the 2009 draft with performance escalation.
